How to Read Your Own Energy: A Beginner’s Guide to Intuitive Self-Awareness

We check the weather. We check our phones. But how often do we check in with our own energy?

Tuning into your energetic state is one of the most powerful forms of self-awareness. It helps you make aligned decisions, recognize when something is off, and return to your natural rhythm. It’s not just for empaths or healers—it's for anyone who wants to live with more clarity, intention, and inner peace. Here’s how to start reading your own energy—no tools required (but of course, you can always bring your crystals along for support).

1. Create Stillness First

Energy speaks in whispers. If your mind is racing or you're distracted, it's harder to hear what's really going on beneath the surface. Start by creating a quiet moment. Turn off distractions, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths. You’re not trying to do anything here—just notice.


2. Ask Yourself, Without Judgment:

  • Where am I feeling heavy?

  • Where do I feel open or light?

  • Is this energy mine—or something I picked up?

  • What do I most need right now?


This simple check-in reveals what’s present in your body and energy field. Don’t rush to “fix” anything. The goal is simply to listen.


3. Use Your Body as a Compass

Your physical body is always communicating. You might feel tightness in your chest when something's off. Or maybe your stomach drops around certain people or situations. On the flip side, you might feel a sense of expansion, ease, or electricity when something is right. Start keeping track. Over time, you’ll learn what your personal signals mean.


4. Cleanse and Reset as Needed

Sometimes, what you're feeling isn’t even yours. We absorb energy constantly—from conversations, environments, even online spaces.

To clear what’s not yours:

  • Burn cleansing herbs like rosemary, cedar, or ethically sourced palo santo

  • Take a salt bath (add herbs, oils, or a few drops of lavender if desired)

  • Use sound: bells, singing bowls, or even your own voice

  • Hold grounding crystals like black tourmaline, obsidian, or smoky quartz

  • Visualize a golden light surrounding your body, clearing and protecting you


5. Pull a Card to Clarify

Once you’ve tuned in, try pulling a tarot or oracle card with the prompt:What energy am I currently holding?What message does my energy want me to hear? You may be surprised how aligned the card is with what you already sensed. That’s your intuition at work.


6. Keep a Daily Energy Log

Try journaling your energy at the same time each day. Write down how you feel emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. You’ll start to see patterns—and learn how things like food, people, sleep, and moon phases affect your energy. This isn’t about control—it’s about awareness. The more you know your energy, the more empowered you become.
